A load flow study establishes how power actually moves through the system: voltage at each bus, current in each branch, and where the margin is running out.

Every other study assumes a set of operating conditions. A load flow study establishes them. Bus voltages, branch and transformer loading, power factor and losses are calculated for the system as it runs today and for the cases that matter — a load added, a transformer out of service, a tie closed. The result shows where voltage sits outside limits, which circuits are near their thermal rating, and how much capacity is left before a planned addition needs the system reinforced rather than simply connected.

Scope

  • Bus voltage profile under normal and contingency conditions
  • Branch and transformer loading against nameplate rating
  • Power factor and system loss calculation
  • Transformer tap and voltage regulator settings
  • Capacity headroom for planned load additions
